Session 2010-11 Chairman¡¦s Message
It is my great honour and pleasure to be elected as the Chairman of the CIBSE Hong Kong Branch for the year 2010-11. This is indeed a meaningful year as CIBSE-HKB is 31 year old and we are entering into a new decade of the 2010s. The beginning of a decade is now often used to mark a generation group as we have seen the active participation in many local issues by the maturing generation of the so called ¡§After 80s¡¨. The HKB was born just before 80s and we should be more than maturing. I would like to see more and more ¡§After 80s¡¨ young engineers joining CIBSE.
Thanks to the good work and achievement made by our Past Chairmen and their committee members. In my coming term of service, I will do my best to continue the achievements and good work done by my predecessors with the following plan.
1. To promote the BS profession and build up reputation of CIBSE and HKB
- We shall continue our representation in Government task forces and working groups and provide consultation advice to technical and social issues, particularly on issues related to the BS profession.
- We shall continue our support to the Building Energy Code legislation by organizing courses and seminars related to building energy and climate change issues
- We shall continue organizing project competitions and career talks to students in universities and upgrade regularly the contents of our Branch website.
- We shall strengthen the collaboration with academic institutions for carrying out research studies related to the BS profession.
- We shall continue our active participation and collaboration with partner institutions in organizing professional and learned society activities.
- We shall continue giving support to the Shanghai Panel in promoting CIBSE and the BS profession in mainland China.
2. To provide value-added services to our members
- We shall continue organizing symposia and seminars to facilitate continued professional development of our members.
- We shall broaden the spectrum of technical activities to cover special/current topics of interest to our members and to invite Distinguished Guest speakers from HK and overseas.
- We shall organize more social gathering and events for our members to extend networking and to share their views & interests.
3. To act as the link between the HQs and Hong Kong members
- We shall promote the benefits of CIBSE membership and encourage the building professionals to join our institution.
- We shall take a proactive role in reflecting the feedback and opinions received from the HK members to the Headquarters so that the interests of HK members are catered into Headquarters¡¦ activities.
4. To maintain membership growth
- We shall promote the benefits of CIBSE membership and encourage the building professionals to join our institution
- We shall strengthen the membership promotion to graduates to transfer their student membership to graduate members.
- We shall enhance our promotion in the universities via YMG (YEN) and provide sponsorship to students for joining as student members as the students are future source to increase our membership growth.
In order to strive for better performance of the Branch aiming at making it to become one of the best CIBSE branches, my committee and I surely will need your full support. If you have any comments and suggestions, please feel free to contact any one of us.
Last but not least, I would like all of you here to join me to express my heartfelt thanks to our immediate Past Chairman, Mr. Herbert Lam and the HK Branch committee members for their hard work and valuable contribution during the term of service in 2009-10.
