In particular, a comprehensive certificate course on Plumbing and Drainage system was held from October to November 2008.

The second was by the President-Elect, Mr. Mike Simpson, and Immediate Past President, Mr. John Armstrong, and Vice President, Mr. Ted King, who paid a visit to our Branch in November 2008. During their stay in Hong Kong, they presented and attended the Joint Symposium 2008, presented in the one-day seminar, visited the HKIE and the EMSD.

We invited Ms Electra Stratigaki to talk about CIBSE Guide L ˇV Sustainability in this one-day seminar which received a full-house attendance.
- CIBSE-HKB is represented in the Technical Task Force on Mandatory Implementation of Building Energy Codes and 3 Working Groups. This involvement would raise the influence of the HK Branch on the industry and the society.
- Mr. Victor Leung visited the HQ in October 2008. The HQ expressed the wish for HKB to participate in more academic research. HKB had already conducted research on thermal comfort in the past two years with research sites in Dongguan. A sharing session on the research was conducted in Dongguan in January 2009 and was well attended by 33 members. A new joint research with HKU on Heat-Island Effect has been started and regular reports will be available on the website.
- Mr. KW Pun raised a question on the funding of technical research and whether HKB members could participate. Mr. Victor Leung responded that research fund was included in the budget and about 3% of the HQ grant would be spent on research which would be reported to HQ. Moreover, the research fund was not open to members but research results would be reported to members by seminars, publications and reports on the web.
