The Chairman's Message

It is my great pleasure to be elected as the Chairman of the CIBSE Hong Kong Branch for Year 2006-2007. We are entering into the 27th anniversary of the establishment of CIBSE Hong Kong Branch, and the number of our members in Hong Kong now represents 1/6th of the membership size of the Institution. We are proud to say that the Hong Kong Branch is very successful, and so successful that the Headquarters recognizes our Branch as an extraordinary performer amongst all Regions and Chapters around the world. Thanks to the good work and achievement made by all the Past Chairmen.

In order to maintain a continuing success of the Hong Kong Branch, I have planned to focus on the following actions in my term of Chairmanship:-

1. Continue our promotion for Building Services profession in Hong Kong and Mainland China

The local promotion will be enhanced by organizing more talks for Universities students and graduates, and more promotional activities for secondary schools and general public. For Mainland China , we have already put in place the yearly China Symposium and the annual Guangzhou conference. We will look for opportunities in sponsoring technical talks of Building Services subjects held in universities and colleges in Guangdong Province.


2. Provide more value-added services to our members

We will organize more suitable forums (e.g. Fellowship nights) for various members to exchange their views and interests of our profession. Another target is to enrich our Local Library with current update of publications which are particularly interested to our Hong Kong Members.


3. Act as the link between the Headquarter and the Hong Kong Members

We will take a more active role in promoting Headquarters' initiatives to our Hong Kong members and reflecting the feedback/ opinions received from the Hong Kong members to the Headquarters such that the Hong Kong local interests can be blended into Headquarters' activities.

4. Maintain membership growth

We will promote the benefit of CIBSE membership to wider spectrum of building professionals including lighting designers, facade engineers, lift engineers, etc. who are encouraged to join CIBSE membership and link their interests to the Special Interest Groups of the Headquarters.

Last but not the least; I would express my heartfelt thanks to our Immediate Past Chairman, Mr Thomas Chan, and his Committee in last session for their hard work and valuable contributions during the term of services in Year 2005-2006.
